Don’t let your gift be a bust

Buying lingerie for your honey when you’re not sure of her size can be a real problem. If it’s too big, she may feel insulted. If it’s too small, she may just be disappointed. Even if she takes it well, it can delay the pleasure of a gift when you have to exchange it. (Many lingerie stores have strict return policies—ours, too—so make sure you know what they are when buying.)

The best way to be sure of the size of a lingerie top is to use a tape measure around the body at the biggest part of the bust. But obviously, if you’re trying to surprise someone that is out. An alternative option is to look at her bra size.* They’ll be in measurements like 34B, 38C, 40B. The number is a calculation based on the measurement around the chest right below the breast. The letter is the cup size, usually A, B, C, D. Take the number and add an inch per cup size to get the bust measurement. See the examples on our sizing page - scroll to the bottom and look at Number Sizing.

Despite all this, lingerie still MAY not fit if it is close fitting—there are variations in design, manufacture, and body shape. But you’ll sure have a better chance than purely guessing.

*Check the newest bras in her drawer. The dang things are so expensive that sometimes we have old ones we don’t want to give up and they really aren’t the best fitting. Plus the labels on older ones are often unreadable due to frequent washings.

Enhance Romance without Expense

Well, not money anyway. Here are some more ideas to go along with last week’s post.

I bet your sweetie would enjoy something off of this list:

Acts of service
– get him or her that cup of coffee, glass of wine, soda, etc. without being asked
– surprise your love by doing a task they normally do
– A back rub or foot rub
– use lotion or massage oils if skin is dry
– light touch is more sensual than heavy
– if you’re both enjoying move to other areas of the body

Quality time
– spend time cheerfully doing something that your spouse enjoys doing
– plan time to do something that you both enjoy and focus on each other

Words of encouragement
– compliments – “wow, you sure look nice”
– verbal appreciation – “you make me feel loved, when you . . .”
– basic encouragement – “that was a good decision you made”

Here’s a review of the book that gave me the three categories above: The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate by Gary Chapman. To find out what the other two love languages are, read the book. It’s a good one! And it will help you find the best way to make your honey feel loved.

Enhance Romance

Sometimes it’s easy for couples to get into a boring routine. Today’s post has suggestions to liven things up.

This article by Susan Breslow Sardone on “Enhance Romance” has 7 romantic tips, most which involve spending money, like buying lingerie! (I know this great site...)

Her “Games for Lovers: Top 10 Games for Adults” gives suggestions that use ordinary household games, plus special games for adults only.

However, in “Romance at Home” by Michael and Barbara Jonas, you’ll find suggestions that can heat up your sex life with no expenditures.

Another suggestion is to leave your love romantic notes. Slip them into his briefcase or her purse. Leave them on the driver’s seat of their car, or on their desk, inside a shirt or coat pocket, on the bathroom mirror. Write compliments. Or say “I love you because . . .” If you don’t know what to say, or want inspiration, look at romantic quotes. We have quotes in English and in Spanish on our site. Below are a couple samples:

"My love for you is a journey; Starting at forever, And ending at never." - anonymous

"You're nothing short of my everything." - Ralph Block

And look at this excerpt from a letter by John Keats:
"I cannot exist without you. I am forgetful of everything but seeing you again. My life seems to stop there, I see no further. You have absorb'd me. I have a sensation at the present moment as though I were dissolving. I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for religion... I have shudder'd at it... I shudder no more. I could be martyr'd for my religion: Love is my religion. I could die for that. I could die for you. My creed is love, and you are its only tenet. You have ravish'd me away by a power I cannot resist."

Wow!
